German Stollers

 

Dissolve

 

1 pkg. yeast                           ¼ c. warm water

 

Combine & Cool to lukewarm:

 

1 c. scalded milk                   ½ c. margarine                     ¼ c. sugar

1 tsp. salt

 

4-4 ½ c. flour             1 egg beaten                          1 c. raisons

¼ c. currents             ¼ c. mixed fruit                    2 tbsp. orange peel

1 tbsp. lemon peel   ¼ c. almonds

 

add:

 

2 c. flour, beat; add yeast mixture beat; add fruit; add balance of flour till soft dough; on floured board knead 8-10 minutes; put in greased bowl, turn once;

cover, rise till doubled 1 ¾ hrs.; punch down; floured board; divide into 3 parts; rise 10 min.; braid 3 ropes 1" spacing rise 1 hour; cook 375 15-20 minutes.

 

Glaze

 

1 c. icing sugar                      2 tbsp. warm water             1 tbsp. margarine
